How to Export WhatsApp Chat — Step by Step Guide
Complete guide to export your WhatsApp conversations on Android and iPhone. Save your chats as .zip files and view them beautifully with Kotha.
WhatsApp lets you export any individual or group chat as a text file (or .zip with media). This is the first step to preserving your conversations — and bringing them to life with Kotha's AI.
On Android
Step 1
Open the WhatsApp chat you want to export — individual or group.
Step 2
Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) at the top right corner.
Step 3
Go to More → Export chat.
Step 4
Choose "Include Media" to include photos and videos, or "Without Media" for just the text.
Step 5
Save the .zip file — you can email it to yourself, save to Google Drive, or share it directly.
On iPhone
Step 1
Open the chat, then tap the contact name at the top to open chat info.
Step 2
Scroll down and tap "Export Chat".
Step 3
Choose "Attach Media" or "Without Media".
Step 4
Share via AirDrop, Mail, or Files app.
💡 Pro Tip
Including media creates a larger .zip file. If you only want the AI conversation feature, "Without Media" works perfectly and exports much faster.
What to Do With the Exported File
Once you have your .zip file, head to onlinekotha.com and drag-drop it into the app. Kotha will:
- Parse all messages beautifully — like reading them in WhatsApp
- Show all media (photos, videos, voice notes)
- Let you search through years of messages instantly
- Enable AI-powered conversations that talk like your contact
- Surface "On This Day" memories from past years
